1. Can I take materials to the recycling center after regular business hours?
No. However, City residents may drop off materials at the recycling center from 9am to 2 pm Monday through Friday.
2. What types of items are accepted through the curbside recycling program?
1. Newspaper, magazines and office paper – Slick advertising inserts and junk mail are also acceptable. Items should be clean and dry. Contaminated paper cannot be recycled.
2. Cardboard – Acceptable items include corrugated cardboard, as well as items such as cereal boxes, shoeboxes, soda boxes and paper towel and tissue rolls. Items should be clean, dry and flattened. Remove all packing material. All cardboard must be flattened and placed at the curb for Wednesday pickup. Commercial customers will be picked through out the week depending on you route and schedule.
3. Aluminum and steel cans – Cans only. Rinse and place into the recycling container. Labels do not have to be removed.
4. Plastics #1 and #2 – Items include milk jugs, as well as water, soda, detergent and juice bottles. Look on the container for a #1 or #2 inside a triangle. Remove lids and rinse out items before placing into the recycling container.
3. What day is limb/recycling pick-up?
Limbs and recycling items for residential customers are picked up on Wednesday. Limbs must be no longer than three feet, bundled and tied. Limbs cannot be bigger than 3 inches in diameter. Commercial customers are picked up throughout the week depending on route and scheduled pickup.
4. What type of plastics do we recycle?
The City of Crockett Recycling Center accepts only plastic No. 1 and 2. The number can usually be found on the bottom of the container in a small triangle.
5. Does the city recycle Styrofoam?
No. Styrofoam is not recyclable at the city's facility as part of our recycling program.
6. Does the city take old tires?
No. The city is not authorized to take old tires.
7. Does the city accept old paint?
The city cannot accept paint. However, here is how to dispose of your old paint. Once the paint is dried it is no longer hazardous. Residents may leave the can open for the paint to dry or pour the paint onto paper and let it dry, and then it is acceptable at a landfill. If you need to dry out the paint, mix in some dirt or kitty litter. Then let dry. Close container and dispose with your household trash.
8. How does the city accept needles or medical waste?
Just place the needles in a stick proof container, such as soda bottle, coffee can or water bottle and place in the trash. Red bagged medical waste cannot be picked up.
9. Does the city take used motor oil and oil filters?
Yes. However, city residents only and it must be five gallons or less. There is a special dispenser at the recycling center drop-off site for used motor oil. The site is accessible by the public from 9 am to 2 pm Monday through Friday.
10. Does the city recycle plastic oil containers?
No. The end users of the city's plastics do not accept the oil residue. After emptying oil containers drain thoroughly and place in the trash.
11. Are milk cartons recyclable?
No. Milk cartons and other wax-coated cardboard containers are not recyclable. Please dispose of these containers with your household garbage.
12. Does the city accept pizza cartons?
Yes, if the pizza carton is clean of food residue and is not wax-coated.
13. Does the city have any compost available?
The city does have mulch, check on availability.
14. Can I put light bulbs in my recycle container?
No. Light bulbs are not recyclable; please place in the regular trash.
15. What types of items are accepted at the drop-off site?
Cardboard, newspaper, plastics No. 1 and 2, steel cans, aluminum cans, magazines, telephone directories, catalogues, oil and oil filters. **lead acid car batteries may be taken to Houston County scrap metal.**
16. Some plastics have #2 compatible on the bottom of the container. Are they recyclable?
Yes. Plastics #1 or #2 compatibles are accepted through the curbside program.
